Happy 1st Birthday Kate!

Yesterday was Kate's 1st birthday. I am so grateful for my happy little girl, who by the way can hear now. She passed her hearing test with flying colors on monday. Thank goodness for those tubes to clear away all that fluid. She is a joy to have. I love her little smile and the innocence she brings into our home. She had a great day. She started off the day doing one of her favorite things....taking a bath. She decided to leave me a little present and pooped in the bathtub for the first time. Ben was quite grossed out. He couldn't believe that he ever did such a thing. Di and the kids and Mike came over for a little birthday party and dinner. We had homemade pizza, salad and cake and ice cream. Fortunately, David was on call wednesday night so was post call on thursday. He slept most of the day and woke up just in time for the party. Kate liked to tear the wrapping paper and play with the boxes. Ben loved all of her presents and looked like he was enjoying his own birthday. His favorite toy is the little stoller Di gave to Kate. It took some persuading to expain why he couldn't bring it to Kate's one year doctor's appointment this morning. Kate loved eating her little cupcake and did a pretty good job at it until she started rubbing it in her eyes. She hated the birthday hat. Unfortunately, Ben passed along his pink eye to Kate just in time for her birthday. The doctor put them both on antibiotics this morning. Hopefully, we can cure them of their ills before we pass it on to 28 cousins at our Gillett family reunion this next week. Ben, Kate and I are off to Utah tomorrow. Wish me luck on the airplane. Two toddlers...both with pink eye...one post immunizations...the other newly potty trained...a layover in Denver...flying way past bedtime...all by myself. Maybe I need more than luck. Maybe Benadryl?

And So It Begins

July 1, 2008! The day has finally arrived. David finished day 1 of 1825 days (5 years) in his residency training! He woke up at 4:30 am and put on the LONG white coat. I am sure he prayed the entire way to the hospital. I didn't get a chance to ask him very many details about his day before he retired to bed at 10 pm. I am thrilled to be able to say my husband is now employed. No matter how meager the paycheck may be, its a paycheck nonetheless. And real health insurance for the entire family, no pre-existing conditions allowed! We are so proud of you Dr. Behrmann, MD! Hang in there for the LONG haul. Someday it will all be worth it. These little faces will be 8 and 6!

Kate's Tubes

Kate's surgery went great today. She is a little trooper. It was a long night since she couldn't eat or drink, but once we got to the hospital she was a little angel. She played, laughed and even slept while we were waiting. The surgery was fast and went great. Dr. Hales said the fluid behind her ears was thick- resembling spaghetti when he sucked it out. She should be an even happier baby now! Thank you for your prayers. Being on the mom side of things is always different than the nurse side!

Miss Kate

Just wanted to let everyone know Kate will be having minor surgery on friday to have ear tubes placed. She has had 5 ear infections since the end of November and most likely has had fluid in her ears that entire time or longer. She had a hearing test done today. She is hearing below the normal level. I was surpised to see how many times she didn't react to the sounds until they made them louder. I hadn't noticed that there was even a problem. She has been crawling around with what seems to her like ear muffs on for quite some time now. Now we know why she gets so excited when Ben comes around....he is much louder than David or I. We are very grateful to a wonderful friend and physician at church for taking his own time to check Kate out last Sunday and for making the entire process so easy and fast for us. She is in good hands! Please keep her in your prayers this week.

A Doctor in the House!

Could it really be true? Is David really done with medical school? Did we really survive with no paycheck for how many years? Time has flown by! For some reason it doesn't quite seem real. David's graduation was last Saturday, May 31st. It was fun to spend a day with David's family for the occasion. His brother Jae and family came from Dallas, his mom from Colorado, and of course the Oklahoma Behrmanns all made their presence. David even received a congratulations phone call from Dr. Rob in Iraq just as graduation concluded. I made sure to take a picture of him talking to Rob, while still dressed in his cap and gown. After the ceremony we all ventured to Hideaway Pizza to celebrate with family and close friends. Enjoy our slide show of the day! Beware of the hospital come July!
