Fall 2013 Tidbits

Kate enjoyed her soccer season this year.  She was determined to defend her goal from the beginning of the season and never really left it the entire time!  We aren't sure where she picked up her growling tactic....none of us will claim it.

Ben's soccer was fun to watch as usual.  He continues to be a great, tenacious soccer player!  Unfortunately, his team didn't do so well this year.  They only had 1 or 2 wins I think.  It didn't help that two of their best players both broke their arms in the beginning of the season and were out for the remainder.  He was a good sport though and never gave up!

Our Stake hosted a multi-faith 5K run to benefit the Maryland Food Bank on September 21, 2013.  Kate ran the entire 5K like a walk in the park.  She taunted several of the older men in our ward with her sprint/walk/sprint tactic.  As soon as they started to catch up she would sprint ahead and then watch over her shoulder for them to get close again.  I suppose we all have to claim her competitive spirit!

Kate lost her first two teeth on September 23, 2013.  They had been very loose for quite awhile but she was determined to only lose them at school so she could get a treasure chest from the school nurse to put them in.  Once the dentist gave her a few treasure chests I was finally able to convince her to let us pull them out.  I was just about ready to do it, when she said: "Stop!  I want Daddy to do it.  Doctors are just smarter than nurses!"  After a quick scolding from Ben she looked at me and said, "But, you are the smartest Mom in the whole school!"  So wait we did...until Dad was actually home before bedtime!  The next morning she told me, "I smiled all night long so the tooth fairy could see my tooth holes.  That's why she gave me two dollars!"  There is never a dull moment when Kate is around!

Before David started his fellowship, we both signed up to run the Baltimore Half Marathon on October 12, 2013 since it would be our last fall in Baltimore.  Miraculously, we both finished but it wasn't pretty.  It was much harder to find the time to train this time around with David's busy hours.  We were glad to have our friends the Christensens and the Calderons join us for the event.  It rained the entire week and weekend, but thankfully the sun decided to shine for those 2 hours!
